  • Comment: Seems to fail WP:CORPDEPTH, a lot of sources are about Dual Universe, but notability is not inherited from a game to the studio that makes it. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:37, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: Sources cited do not establish notability per WP:GNG / WP:ORGCRIT. Also, this comes across very much as a ROTM business with no indication of significance, and as such would be a prime candidate for A7 speedy if published. DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:19, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Novaquark is a French company, indie game studio and video game publisher. It is known for being the publisher of the Dual Universe video game. This company was founded by Jean-Christophe Baillie in January 2014. The Novaquark studio brings together veterans of the video game industry who have worked in major companies in the sector, Ubisoft, Apple, Sony, CCP Games...[1],[2]. The company has more than twenty employees[3].

Startup[edit]

Initially, in 2016 as launches alpha[4] the studio announced a fundraiser campaign to Kickstarter with a goal of €500,000. This goal was achieved with a total amount of €565,983 from 8,166 backers. Additionally, the company raised funds through its own website.

In 2017 Novaquark has secured funding[5] for development of its sci-fi MMO from private investors in amount $3.7 million. Thus, as a result of fees in total, the studio raised $7.4 million in 2017 to create the game.

Development[edit]

Novaquark currently helds several computer graphics and virtual reality patents by authorship founder and CEO Jean-Christophe Baillie and CTO Guillaume Gris in Europe[6] [7], the US[8] and Canada[9] [10]. The company uses these technologies in the development of Dual Universe. In particular, Novaquark used his patented proprietary technology named as Continuous Single Shard Cluster (CSSC) [11] in the game it publishes[12]. During the development of the game and the implementation of this technology, the developers from Novaquark explained[13] the main principles on the basis of which it functions. In addition, Novaquark is also the developer of its own proprietary voxel engine named as Voxelmancy, which is also used in their MMO game[14]. Name Voxelmancy has registered by Novaquark in 2022 as trademark of IP in Australia[15]. As of the end of 2022, the company-maintained MMO has over 450,000 subscribers and over 4,000 daily active players and is ranked 67/138 of all MMOs[16]

Number of employees[edit]

When the company was created in early 2014, around twenty people were working on the project. Between January 2014 and September 2014 the entire development team was renewed.[17]

In February 2019, Novaquark opened a new studio in Montreal[18] and recruited Stéphane D'Astous[19], a former general manager of Eidos Montreal.
