Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on May 19, 2010.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Nationaltheatret Station, which is located within the Oslo Tunnel and serves all lines of the Oslo Commuter Rail, is Norway's only underground mainline railway station?

Comments[edit]

  • Lead: define largest.
  • Lead: "Nationaltheatret is the only underground mainline railway station in Norway named for the near-by National Theatre". Yes, it is true that no other stations are named after that, but is this really two sentences?
  • Facilities: Three entrances: there are two in one end of the platform and one (Henrik Ibsens gate) in the other. As for the two entrances: "from the National Theatre" is perhaps more accurate to say "from Johanne Dybwads plass" (to say from the National Theatre could be misleading - yes it's there, but its main entrance is on the other side of the building, facing towards Eidsvolls plass), and this is the entrance to the metro station to which you can walk through and take the escalator down. The other is under 7. juni-plassen (I don't know of a Haakon VIIs plass, but there's indeed a statue of him at 7. juni-plassen) and also under Victoria Terrasse, facing towards the street Ruseløkkveien. Vis-a-vis is the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities. The picture caption says Munkedamsveien, but as far as I can see this road is one block away; it's Ruseløkkveien.
    • If I remember correctly, this book has a picture, centred on Victoria terrasse, but where you can also see the wall underneath VT which is now one of the entrances. There was no entrance then; firewood was stacked there.
  • Facilities: The area also features a Western Union Bank, and a flower shop if I remember correctly. But do write what the source says
  • Service: I don't understand the sentence "although not all services of lines that do not run west of Skøyen operate west of Oslo S"
  • Service: "with the journey taking 28 minutes" ...from Nationaltheatret, I presume?
  • Should all street names be italicized?

As for the question whether it is in Vika or Sentrum. Three metro stations are defined as "being in Sentrum" (here), so Sentrum should be mentioned. From this it would appear that the station is also formally located in Sentrum borough. It is probably in Vika as well; this says that Oslo Concert Hall is, and only one block separates the hall and the station. We could probably say "Vika, Sentrum". Thanks, that was more than I was expecting :) Ever considered GA reviewing? I think I've got it right now, especially after I remember they renamed Drammensveien to Henrik Ibsens gate. Could you quickly check the entrance section, just to make sure?
I don't think street names should be in italics, even though they are Norwegian, but I'm not entirely sure about this. After all, there seems to be agreement that we consequently use the Norwegian names, thus "admitting" that the Norwegian names also are "English". Don't think the MOS mentions this explicitly.
